kayaking is my favorite water sport. no other boat reacts so finely to the water and waves like a kayak.

The word kayak comes from the Greenlandic term qajaq and roughly translated means "the boat of the hunter". The agile paddle boats were built hundreds of years ago by the Inuit people and used by the Eskimos in the Arctic for hunting near the coast.
At that time, the kayaks were constructed of wood and whale bones and then wrapped around with the skin of animals. Since the 1950s, construction methods made of fiberglass prevailed in Europe - today most of the boats are made of robust plastics or partly of wood. Especially in Greenland, traditional kayaking is still used, with impregnated canvases replacing animal skins.
